settlement by Europeans in the Utah region. It was first named;
Fort Buenaventura.
It was established by the trapper Miles Goodyear
in 1846. Later purchased by the Mormon settlers for $1,950, the name
was changed to Brownsville and later "Ogden", for a brigade leader
of the Hudson's Bay Company, Peter Skene Ogden.
Ogden has historically been the second largest
city in Utah until recently since Salt Lake City suburbs and Provo
has surpassed the Ogden population.
